Origin: Santa Maria Tlahuitoltepec, Oaxaca Mexico. Sierra Mixe.
Description: this incense holder was inspired by the Calaveras, that are popular during Day of the dead
Material: this piece was made using local clay from Tlahuitoltepec.
Technique: this incense holder was cooked in an open fire, ground level, kiln in a natural finish with subtle textures and some burnt marks adorning its surface. Due to its handmade artisanal nature there are variations in each piece. This piece is completely unglazed, but due its extensive polish, it comes off as glazed.
Color: Wind, fire temp, debris, and weather all play a role in the finished look. Just like snowflakes, no two pieces are the same.
